WOW, our production is so close now... The children have been working so hard at learning the songs and actions for their scene!
Thank you to all of you who have bought along your costumes, keep them coming though as we do need them for next week!
Today we were busy being tidy kiwi's along with Room 4.
We were helping clean up our enviroment!
We found LOTS of rubbish, and we didn't have to go very far!
We were very surprised by the amount of rubbish we picked up.

During Maths we have been exploring patterns. We then made our own 'snakes' with patterns.
We had to choose the coloured paper we wanted and then create a pattern.
Here are some pictures of us working hard to create a pattern for our snakes body.

During reading, we have been reading the poem 'Mmmmm, Popcorn!' by Philippa Werry.
Then on Friday we got to make some popcorn in the popcorn machine!
We watched the popcorn change from a little popcorn kernel into a fresh, warm piece of popcorn that we could eat!

Here are some ideas that were shared as the children watched what was happening...
"It looks like a waterfall" - Kayden
"It smells like the popcorn at the movies" - Emilia
"It's making a bang, bang noise like a gun" - Nathanial
"It's going into the bowl fast!" - Daniel
"It's changing into popcorn" Jacob
"It's making a mountain of popcorn in the bowl"
"It's shooting out" - Vaydim

We made JELLY! We watched the steam (gas) come out of the jug, and Miss Thomson poured the hot water (liquid) into bowls for us. We then stirred and mixed the jelly crystals (solid) with the hot water until they dissolved.
The next day, we ate our jelly. It had changed from a liquid into a solid.

Please read someof our Jelly Stories, you can find them under 'A1 Writing'.

Experiment

Liquid to Gas Experiment

Check out our photos that Miss Thomson took while we did this experiment... We watched the liquid (water) change into a gas (steam).

Unfortunately, the photos have not saved in order... But you could try to sequence the photos in the correct order...
This has to be by far our favourite experiment, when we melted chocolate!!
First, we melted the chocolate in a pot, and then we melted the chocolate in our mouths... YUM!!
We discovered that we need heat to melt the solid (chocolate).
We changed the solid into a liquid.

We have been busy this term learning about the three states of matter... Solids, liquids and gases!
Lots of experiments have been going on in our classroom, we have been very busy little scientists in Rewarewa.

Here we are mixing the 'mystery powder' into cold water... We observed what we saw after we had mixed it.

Our mystery powder changed the colour of the water, but we could still see some little bits of stuff floating in the water... Hmmm!

Then Miss Thomson mixed the 'mystery powder' with hot water, and it changed!
"All of the mystery powder melted" - Nathanial.

We were learning about dissolving, and we discovered that our 'mystery powder' (jelly crystals) dissolved best in
hot water.

In Rewarewa children listened to the story if 'Captain cough a lot!'. As a group we discussed things a pirate would need, and we all agreed that a pirate ship was one very important thing!!

The children then made their own 'pirate ship' after watching a step-by-step video on youtube. At times it was tricky folding the piece of paper, so it was great to see others helping those who were finding it hard to fold their piece of paper.

Their task after making their boat was to estimate how many marbles their boat would hold before it would sink to the bottom of the container.... Hmmm, some children estimated their boat would hold only 4 marbles before sinking. But one pirate ship held a record 28 marbles before sinking! WOW!!

Our last day of Term 1 was fantastic, with everyone dressing up as their favourtire book character!

Check out our classroom photo... What book characters can you see??
